March 19, Friday

Another bright, but cool, spring like morning. Two in a row. It’s 48°, without cloud in the sky. A nice way to end a week.

I got my notice yesterday to schedule my covid-19 vaccination. So, for right now, I’m scheduled for Monday morning. And I only have to drive into Pearland… Well, the far side of Pearland.

Luckily, I’m old enough to have figured out that this does not grant me immunity to play stupid. I will be wearing my mask for the foreseeable future. And I won’t be going to any bars, or restaurants, or music festivals, or any other damn thing that’s got a bunch of people together and close proximity. And I still have to wait for the second shot. But life goes on… Until it doesn’t.

I’ve been seeing an Eastern bluebird for the last couple of days. I even said and talked to one as I walked back from the mailbox yesterday. there is something about the song of a blue bird that just calms my soul. It’s probably just being raised with Walt Disney every week… You know the song…

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
My, oh, my, what a wonderful day
Plenty of sunshine headin’ my way
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay!Mister Bluebird’s on my shoulder
It’s the truth, it’s “actch’ll”
Everything is “satisfactch’ll”

I didn’t grow up with bluebirds. As a matter of fact I didn’t see my first one until about the time we built our first home. I still remember standing in the model looking out the patio door at a bluebird in the grass and thinking life was good and getting better. It was sometime after 2000 when I began to see them in my backyard here (what’s now my front yard). For a few years, it seemed they were raising two to three batches of young a year in the trees over my head. And I would see them on a regular basis, flying down to catch an insect in the grass. Or, checking out an s boxes. Or, just sitting on an electric pole spreading happiness to the world.

Well, this muse has rambled all over the place… And my coffee cup is empty… Though it’s just the first cup. So, you all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for the world and the nation or vice versa…

Have a wonderful day… Mr bluebird’s out there!
