8th of January, Friday

It’s very chilly outside, it actually made it into the 30s last night. Driving back to the house this morning from taking the kids to the bus stop, there was frost on the shingles of the house. Looking back towards the bayou I can see a narrow river of fog floating above the water.

The morning news is still full of the attempted coup from Wednesday afternoon. What it appears to not be full of is much of anything from the president or his flunkies. I suppose, that’s a good thing. I can’t imagine Donald Trump has anything to say that wouldn’t rile up the same base of people that rioted and looted and destroyed in our house on Wednesday.

I really only have one thing to say to the people who listen to Donald Trump and believe his lies about the 20/20 election, and that’s that you people are the nightmare in America today. Your belief in conspiracies has led you to live in one.

In my view, it’s time for the House of Representatives to file articles of impeachment against this unlawful president. His actions and his words speak volumes about his criminality.

You know, as much as I disdained George W Bush, I never felt this visceral loathing for him that I feel for Donald Trump and his enablers. And after Wednesday, I am beginning to feel that same loathing for his followers. I do not like nor want to feel this way about my fellow Americans. But somehow, this has become my default now.

I find myself wishing for my ideal of America and sad that that ideal has fallen further and further from reality.

It’s time folks, time to Make America America Again. Time to live up to the ideals of America. Time to remember what we are, and where we came from. Almost none of us are native Americans, almost every one of us have ancestors that came to this country from somewhere else. And, for whatever reason they came to America, they came for a better life. It’s time that we remembered this. It’s time that we re align ourselves with the dream that is America. It’s time to shine the light of truth on all of the conspiracies that darken the soul of Donald Trump.

Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, pray for this Nation, we could all use a little prayer in these trying times. And wear your damned masks, they aren’t a political statement… They’re a health statement.

  1. Well said, Gary. I agree with you all the way around, especially your words about Bush II. I, too, had nothing but dislike for him and felt that many of his actions and policies were not good in most ways for our country. But it was nothing like the absolute loathing I have for Trump. The totality of who he is– his words and actions– is so distinctly un-American. At least the America of ideals that both you and I envision.

I read an interesting report from reporter Olivia Nuzzi who has many sources within the current White House. Her sources told her that Trump was excited initially by the mob when they started to storm the Capitol. But it was reported that as he watched he began to recognize that these were his “people.” And he didn’t like them. They were, reportedly, too low class, too trashy.

He was offended by them on an aesthetic level.

    And it reportedly shook him.

The whole thing, that he had this epiphany now, made me laugh because these were the same people I have been watching for four+ years. These folks and their willingness to accept obvious lies and conspiracies as well as their resistance to believing obvious truths are the problem, just as you say. Unfortunately, I don’t think too many of them are going to have any kind of epiphany anytime soon which leaves us to deal with them for the coming years.

We can do it though. Again, well said, Gary.

    1. Thanks, Gary.

I find myself going back to your post from yesterday to just sit and contemplate the image you shared… I was back just minutes ago, and I still have that image up in a separate window…Calm… That’s what I need right now.
