Today it’s raining. The temperature is in the sixties. We will bounce around with highs in the sixties till Wednesday then it’ll be highs in the fifties for awhile. For a change it will be seasonally cold to start on Christmas day. The forecast is even calling for strong north winds on Christmas day.

I’m going to have to get moving. Even with the rain… and no real menu… it’s still time to shop for Christmas dinner. So I guess I should give fix breakfast to get this show on the road.

Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and Pray for our Nation and the world.

Happy holidays…

  1. I was through your town today, though behind the worst of the rain. I’ve just had the weirdest 7-10 days I’ve had in quite some time, but with luck I’ll have some issues resolved in this next week, and be able to relax for Christmas. At least i had the chance to see one of my best friends in person — that was quite a gift in itself.

    1. Linda, I hope everything is ok. If you were driving through what was coming down here after lunch I feel for you. After everything blew thru I looked back at the woods and it looked like it did during Harvey. It looked like solid standing water right up to the fence line. At least this time it was just standing rain water and not the top of the floodwaters. Try and enjoy Christmas. It might not be a repeat of 2004… but you never know… miracles do happen.

      1. It’s just too complicated to talk about — eventually, I’ll write about it. Suffice it to say a dead alternator led to a replacement (in Bandera) which wasn’t done correctly. I ended up dead in the water in Bulverde, had the car towed to the original shop in Bandera, where a cascade of bad things made an engine replacement necessary. After a week, I went back to Bandera and got the car, and was driving home from Kerrville yesterday. Out of breath yet? I certainly was, especially when some dashboard lights came on AGAIN and there were obvious problems just north of Rosenberg. I stopped to check things, and when I started again, the lights were out and the car seemed fine.

I made it home in time to get to Toyota in League City, and have a Tuesday a.m. appointment to get hooked up to their diagnostic machines to see what’s up.

Oh — and the original repair shop paid for the new engine, new radiator, etc. So, Phew.

See why I’m out of breath, too?

        1. Wow… Don’t you miss old technology sometimes when it come to cars. I lost a fanbelt coming up from south Texas years and years and years ago. It was somewhere between Goliad and Fannin I think. I just remember feeling totally lost in the middle of m=nowhere. No houses in site, no cars passing me by. just miles of unobstructed highway in each direction.

After looking thru the car, a ’57 Chevy station wagon, I found a piece of nylon cord in my laundry bag. I was able to tie it around the water pump and the fan but not the generator. So I could drive. It was a Sunday in the early ’70’s and you didn’t find many places open. Luckily I Made it to Victoria where a station was open. They didn’t have the belt I needed but they replaced the cord with a belt that just fit and charged my battery. From there I drove to my uncle’s station in Wharton and he charged the battery for me once more, I was able to drive it home and get it to my mechanic on Monday to replace the actual belt… Talk about a trip…
