I’m on the front porch this morning. Another below seventy degree morning. The crows are congregating, not quite a murder yet, but gathering… playing at follow the leader. Big black velvety birds with a big, area filling call.

I slept thru sunrise. My favorite weekend activity in these pandemic times. Ignoring the alarm two days a week after years of not setting one.

The hummingbirds have thinned out a bit in the last few days. I am going to assume some of them have continued their fall migration. I am sure another group will be gathering in for the next cold front… we usually have two or three waves pause to recharge as the season passes.

I just watched a bird chase and catch a cicada in the tree canopy. That’s not something you see every day.

We’ve finally reached the time of year when enjoying the outdoors is actually enjoyable. I wandered out during the heat of the day yesterday and found it to be… not unpleasant. I’m looking forward to next week after the next cool front. If the prognoticaters are correct, I’ll need to dress warmer than shorts and a tank top for a few of the mornings.

Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and Pray for our Nation’s future… I don’t think I’ve ever seen both ends of the political spectrum so afraid of the other.

But, then again, I don’t remember a time when one end doesn’t believe the news reports from anyone besides their favorite partisan media… Or when an administration called every report it didn’t like fake news. When conspiracy theories have become accepted facts and real news is unbelievable, you have a problem.

When one side questions the validity of the election and won’t accept the decision unless they win… Houston, we have a problem.

So, once again, Pray for our Nation’s future… Pray we still have one…
