I walked out before sunup this morning and it was just a bit chilled on the back porch. I wasn’t expecting the temperature to be as low as it was after the high of 70 degrees yesterday. But WeatherUnderground let me know it was all of 33 degrees out there…

I had thought I might take a shot at my Birthday Road Trip yesterday. But, the day started out pretty overcast and I didn’t look forward to spending a few hours in the car. Even the thought of getting out and being in nature wasn’t as big a draw as usual… Oh well.

Facebook reminded me of a post from 5 years ago that I find even more troubling now than I did then…

For weeks now something has been missing and I couldn’t quite figure out what. You know the feeling… you’re driving down the street and something that’s been there for years suddenly isn’t. It’s like that word on the tip of your tongue. The glasses on top of your head you just can’t find. I even thought I was having one of those senior moments… but, no. There really is something that has gone missing in the last month or more…

It’s those yard signs that were out all over the place for as long as I can remember… probably eight years or so. You know the ones… Pray For Our Nation… or some words to that effect. All of a sudden most of them are gone. At the very time that I am feeling the need for a serious amount of prayer for this country, my neighbors seem to think their prayers have been answered. And, what bothers me the most, the only obvious change I see is… Their is a white man in the White House.

Congress is still conservative, Texas is still the reddest of reds, our schools are still underfunded, or roads are still falling apart, water and sewer systems around the country are failing under conservatives watchful eyes, but, the black man is gone so we don’t feel the need for prayer anymore… Am I the only one seeing this? Has anyone else noticed how quickly those ubiquitous signs have become a rarity?

That’s right… January 6th is a Democratic “abuse of prosecutorial power” over “citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse”… What the hell does that mean for America? Legitimate political discourse… Really? From the people who condone tear gassing peaceful protestors in Washington if their legitimate political discourse happens to be accompanied by black skin… Really?

Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and say a prayer for our dysfunctional country and the world… I’ll catch y’all on the other side…
