Thursday

Stepping out on the front porch this morning was one of those “Oh wow” moments. The temperature was a pleasant 69°. The humidity was a mehh… 93%. But, still it felt extremely pleasant.

Even the light of the rising sun has a different look and feel to it. There’s definitely a fall preview feeling to the last couple of days. Making me anticipate the eventual changing of the seasons.

Every time I walk out of the house these days there is a constant chatter from the hummingbirds. Their numbers are growing daily. They are fighting with each other over possession of the feeders… It’s impossible for them to share. But as the number stack in… share they will.

It looks as if the city has caught up with us. What was mostly fields and pasture when we moved out to this place, is rapidly becoming suburban subdivisions. In the last couple of months they’ve begun working just around the corner on clearing another subdivision.

DR Horton‘s new Alvin subdivision.

What was once one of the biggest undeveloped pastures in the neighborhood is now going to be streets and homes. For a lot of years this pasture was the bane of my existence. It’s where one of the good old boys kept his rodeo bulls. And being rodeo bulls, they didn’t like to be confined. So with great regularity they would walk out of their pasture and wander around my yard as they would head for the bio for a good drink of water. I’ve lost track of the number of times the police came out to play rodeo cowboys and try to corral the bunch of big rodeo bulls.

But no matter what, I will be keeping an eye on the upcoming construction project that I will be hearing on a daily basis… I’m sure this means traffic will be even more messed up than it has been lately on our little road. And as usual in these situations, building the infrastructure to get people in and out of a new subdivision will have to wait for the new residents to start complaining about roads and access… Which if past experience is any indicator of future events… They will improve the roads after they finish the subdivision. Then they will tear up the roads to install new utilities… Progress!

But enough of this, it’s almost time to take another run to the road for a school bus… So y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for the nation and the world.
