The 26th of July, 2021

Monday

It’s only in the seventies this morning, but, the humidity is at 90%. And as usual for this time of year, it’s going to be a hot one.

The predominant bird sound outside this morning are Cardinals.

Last night, in the middle of nothing, the power blinked off. It wasn’t off long a minute or two. Really just long enough to reset all of the clocks on all of the appliances. But the troubling thing is the power blinked off and nothing was happening. And, this keeps happening. I know Texas is run like a third world country… But the reliability of our infrastructure is getting troubling, to say the least.

I mean think about it, there was no wind, no rain, no notices of high usability, no reason for the power to trip. But trip it did.

So the reliability of the electrical grid is not what’s on the governor’s mind. No… It’s constraining the vote, trying to block a constitutionally guaranteed right to seek an abortion, and building Donald Trump’s wall. Like I said, a third world country…

Oh, and on top of everything else… People are starting to test positive for COVID-19 again. Even people who’ve already been vaccinated. My son showed up in a mask yesterday because everyone in his bank has tested positive except him and one other person. Someone at my daughter’s work has tested positive again so now they’re back on mandated masks… The good kind…

Then from what I can see, the compliancy rate with vaccinations in Texas pretty much sucks. And in a few weeks school is going to start back in the governor has pretty much said local government agencies cannot mandate masks… I’m really beginning to think I’m living through an episode of dumb and dumber.

But you know, it could be worse, I could live in Trump country… Oh wait a damn minute, I do. And when the folks around here tell me if I don’t like it, I should leave it… All I can say is the only people who have a better claim to be here than I do or the native Americans, because some of my folks have been here since before Texas was even a country much less a state. And most of the others showed up in the 1850s.

But what the hey, it’s Monday, the start of a new week, almost the end of the month, the heat of the summer, whatever do I have to be upset about? So y’all stay safe, stay healthy, pray for the nation and the world. And you should probably start wearing that mask again if you don’t still wear one. I know I’ve never stopped.
