June 24th, Thursday

When I walked out this morning to take the garbage to the road it was muggy. The temperature was 80° but the humidity… My, my, my… The humidity was 93%. Welcome to my world… Summer on the Southeast Texas Gulf Coast.

Is there any reason to not understand why I call this my hibernation season. Heat and humidity make me a grumpy old bear. Were I a bear of means, I’d have me another den somewhere up north where the summers are pleasantly cool… Which in this day and age pretty much excludes much of the country.

When even Minnesota and North Dakota are having spells, days on end spells, where the temperature tops a hundred degrees. Where do you look for those cool, pleasant summers?

I saw somewhere yesterday that Governor Abbott used his veto power to defund the legislature of Texas. I mean really if they won’t pass the laws you want what good are they? Just remove their paychecks and their assistants paychecks and their office money’s right out of the budget. You’ll show them won’t you Governor Abbott?

Yesterday morning we had a rain shower move through. And as I was watching it I thought about something my younger son said… After a handful of years in New York state, he was amazed that you could actually make out individual raindrops in a light rain shower. His comment was to the effect that in New York light rains were more misty in nature than not these great big fat raindrops that fall on our heads down here in Texas. Personally, I wouldn’t know, so I’ll have to take his word on it.

I noticed over the weekend that it didn’t take long for the Republican view of face mask to take over. In our grocery shopping trips the face mask wearing folks have fallen to about at most a quarter of everybody in the stores… And that’s a high estimate. The COVID-19 news does not indicate that this should be true yet. Me, I’m going to keep wearing the mask for a while even if the numbers get down into the single digits percentage-wise. Even though I have been vaccinated, the new variants do not make me assured that I will be safe… Especially in an environment where few people are taking any precautions.

Well, my coffee cup is running low… And while the house is still quiet I should probably get some things done… So, y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for the nation and the world… And pray for the state of Texas, we really need some divine guidance.
