February 22nd, Monday

From the deep freeze of winter, to pleasant mornings of spring, the temperature this morning is 55°. The forecast high for today is 71°. That means by early afternoon the temperature on my back porch with the sun shining down should reach almost 80°.

Life in my little piece of the world is pretty much back to normal after last week’s fiasco of a winter storm. We never lost water. Though the electricity was off for quite a while, almost three full days. Thank God for my foresight and not making this house 100% electric. So we were able to maintain some heat in the majority of the house. And as much as I think a fireplace in this climate is just for pleasure, it sure paid its way in the past week.

I noticed this morning that most of the leaves on my kumquat tree have been freezer burned. I guess I’ll have to spend some time as spring arrives cutting back some of the damaged shrubs around the yard. I’m kind of wondering what the effect of the freeze will have on my azaleas out under the oak trees.I always look forward to their splash of color in the spring.

Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray… As Mary Gauthier says, “We all could use a little mercy now”,

Have a good day…
