It’s quiet out on the back porch this morning. Ceiling fans and cicadas, cardinals and finches. A breath of a breeze rustling the red oak leaves. June has settled upon the land rather lightly so far.

My blog buddy Linda, posted that today is National Prairie Day. We once walked together on the Nash Prairie Preserve a few years ago. On that day we were guided by Susan Conaty, Nash Prairie’s preeminent champion.

I’ve spent many a pleasant hour just sitting on the edge of that wonderful relic of the past, listening to the birds and the wind. Watching the grasses dance.

Someone is doing some hammering on the next street to my west. Hopefully, they aren’t really going to be building for at least a bit… this is most likely the most peaceful bit of time I’ll have today.

I am spending more of my time looking and listening than musing on this page… I guess that means it’s time to quit and head in…

  1. It sure will be wonderful when the Nash opens again. I heard via the grapevine that mid-June is possible for some other sites. I’m not sure whether the Nature Conservancy wants to open everything across the country at the same time, which would explain the delay, or whether they’ll consider local circumstances. We’ll see — I can’t wait to get out there again.
