A cool morning on the back porch.
This spring has belonged to the cardinals. The local population has boomed over the past few years until now there must be a couple off dozen sharing our yard at any given time.
My yard still has that ragged spring look. I haven’t yet started to regularly mow. If I was living in a neighborhood, the homeowner’s association would be all over me.
But, you know what… it’s just how I like it.

I’m thrilled to death — I finally have enticed a male cardinal to my balcony, and it’s clear that he’s feeding someone, somewhere. Maybe a female on the nest, since I haven’t seen her. There’s sure a lot of flying back and forth to gather food, though. With luck, I’ll get to see the babies and mama!
