Wednesday, October Tenth

The first front has passed, even with the sun up the temperature is nice for my morning coffee muses.

It’s the first time i’ve opened my umbrella since spring. Some wasps had made a nest in it.

There are still clouds to the east, the back side of the front that passes in the night. The rest of the dome of sky is blue with pale, wispy clouds. Our first truly fall morning.

Just a slight breeze blowing the leaves around on the trees. Mockingbirds have begun to sing their songs of celebration of the day once again. Evidently, they’re no happier with our long summers than I am.

The quietness of the back yard when compared with the front is markedly different.

The butterfly weed is showing some new growth after be stripped of it’s leaves a few weeks back. The goldenrod is also showing it’s first hint of golden yellow,  though around the area I’ve seen fields filled with gold already.

Most amazing though is the height of the grasses growing on the edge of the roads.  On the U turns on the bypass, the grass is higher than my Forester. You have to find a break in the grass to see the oncoming traffic. I’ve never seen it this high before.

The coffee cup is empty. Time to take it inside…
