Monday, June eighteenth

Cool, wet,  the rain comes and goes, never completely stopping, morning coffee muses.

It’s only going to get wetter as the day goes by. When I stepped out last night, the tropical nature of this rain event was evident. The warm humid air hit you in the face. Now the rain has dropped the temperature into the mid sixties, which actually feels pretty good.

Looking at the radar I see we are just beginning to see the rains coming on shore. And the low that’s spinning this moisture onshore is sitting just offshore from Brownsville. That means the whole Texas coast is getting this rain. At least, so far, it’s coming down slow and steady with some heavier showers thrown in for variety.

The only bird I’m seeing right now is a hummingbird. I should say, besides water birds, nothing seems to stop the seagulls or the herons from flying.

I just spotted a cottontail hopping across the right of way at the back of the yard. That’s the first time I’ve seen it in a good long time. I was beginning to think we no longer had one living on the place. It’s nice to be wrong.

We are n a lull in the rain right now. I can see more moving up from the coast.

The first bird on the feeder today is a blue jay. Almost beaten out by a cardinal.

Time to run…
