It’s a beautiful, cool, but breezy morning. The temperature is 47°. And the winds are out of the north. But the sky is mostly clear. And the sun is shining brightly… Oct
Yesterday as I was driving back from a doctor’s appointment, I began to get a craving for a guilty pleasure of mine… Jack in the Box tacos.
Jack in the Box tacos are one of the “bad” foods I developed a fondness for way back in the early 1970s. Back then you can swing into a Jack in the Box and pick up a dozen tacos and a large order fries for somewhere around $5. And as a teenager, me and my buddies did that on a regular basis… Usually very late at night.
Now no matter what you think, these aren’t tacos like you are accustomed to tacos today. Nobody ever wrote a good review… No one ever stood in line for them… But boy did we ever gobble down a few dozen at a time.
So over the years they have risen to the top of my guilty pleasures list. It’s so bad that whenever I would go out of the state, particularly to Louisiana for a week or two for work.. driving home on I-10. I would make it no further than Orange, Texas before I had to stop and pick up some tacos at the first Jack in the Box. I mean, I might not have had a Jack in the Box. Taco for a year before the trip.. but just the idea that I couldn’t buy one would force me to stop and have one on the way back.
And such are guilty pleasures…
I’ve never been to a Jack in the Box, but I might have to make a stop and try the tacos — just because.
I have to warn you Linda.. by no stretch of the imagination are these good tacos… But they touch a food memory nich in my brain that has to be scratched occasionally. Be warned!
