2023 Day 334

Thursday, November 30th

It’s a damp but warm-ish morning. The weather prognosticators have been foretelling of a possible “weather event” for today. They began casting their warnings a couple of days ago..

One of the nice things about damp air and overcast skies is it brings out the fall colors in a really nice way. Both of my Red oaks are showing the beginning of peek color. Though, the smaller of the two trees has a much more intense color palette than the older one.

It’s been about 20 years since that larger red oak was the size of the smaller one. I originally planted two where are the larger? One is growing. But, long before those two trees reached the size of my smaller one, one of them died. It’s probably just as well as they were planted much too close together for the size they would reach at maturity.

So truth be told, at about 30 years old, the large Red oak has a long way to go before it reaches maturity.
