2023 Day 157

Tuesday June 6th

Space City Weather keeps warning that these cool mornings will come to an end here shortly. And I’m sure they’re right, because the humidity is rising. But as long as the dew points hang below 70°, I think I’ll be happy.

Once again it’s mostly quiet out. The hum of the fan.. The buzz of the cicadas.. The song of the Cardinals.. that is the predominant soundscape on my back porch. Though, off in the distance I can hear a bit of traffic on the bypass and the occasional beep, beep, beep, beep of heavy equipment working on the Watermark subdivision. But, for all intents and purposes, sitting on my back porch in my cedar rocker… I could be sitting far, far away from civilization.. but I’m not.

It’s only been in the last few days that I’ve been introduced to Adam Reader, the Professor of Rock…

Reader, a rock n’ roll enthusiast, is an expert of Top 40 song hits and artists from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

Professor of Rock, a 25-minute internet show, runs Monday through Saturday and features Reader conducting one-on-one interviews with rock n’ roll artists, such as Journey, Kenny Loggins, and Santana.

I don’t know what it is about his videos.. I don’t know if it’s his enthusiasm.. his seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of his subject.. or just the evident love he bubbles over with for rock and roll. But whatever it is, it keeps drawing me back to watch another.. and another.. and another.

While I’m familiar with the groups and the songs he’s covered in all of the videos I’ve watched so far. At the time I didn’t spend much time thinking about the behind the scenes nature of rock and roll. And I didn’t think at all about the reasons the songs were written.. or even … Who actually wrote them. What can I say, I was young and life was about other things at the time. I just like to listen to the music that spoke to me.

I have noticed, that after listening to one of his videos, I find myself needing to go back and listen to the originals he is talking about. Last night I watched the following…

Immediately after watching this I had to do a YouTube search for the original video of Johnny Cash’s version. If you’re interested, I’ll save you the effort of the surge…

Thank you Adam for letting me follow your journey and your love of rock and roll history.. I’ll be chasing another of your visions this evening.

And now … It’s time for me to start my day after I finish this cup of coffee out here on the back porch. Y’all have a great day and I’ll catch y’all on the other side.
