It’s like walking into a sauna when I step outside this morning. The morning temperature is already 77°. The sun is trying to burn through the layer of clouds. And what little bit of breeze there is, is not making it to the bench I’m sitting on..
A few days back I read a good description of dewpoints from Eric over at Space City Weather…
The scientific definition of a dewpoint is the temperature to which the air must be cooled to achieve a relative humidity of 100 percent. So if the air temperature is 70 degrees—which may sound comfortable—and the dewpoint is also 70 degrees it’s going to feel really sticky outside. But you don’t have to remember that definition for dewpoints, just this handy guide:
Dewpoints in the mid-50s or below: The air is dry and comfortable
Dewpoints in the mid-60s: The air starts feels somewhat sticky during the day, and somewhat muggy in the evenings
Dewpoints in the mid-70s or higher: Oh my god I’m dying.
Summer really is here.. do you know how I know? The mimosa tree is blooming, the chest tree is blue, there are green figs on our fig tree.. The only thing missing are blooms on the crape myrtle.
It looks like I will need to break out the front porch fan in the near future. It’s only the wind chill effect that makes summer mornings bearable on the front porch as the humidity climbs..
Good morning soundscape is definitely tending to the summer time easy listening.. mourning doves or cooing all around me. The only discordant sound is the call of the ever-present construction machinery.. beep, beep, beep, beat, beef, beep.. neverending, day in and day out.. beep, beep, beep, beep, beep…
Well, the big yellow school bus is picked up the grandkids. And as much as I enjoy sitting on the front porch.. I find the heaviness and the stickiness of the air just a bit oppressive.. so I’m headed in. You all have a nice TGIF and I’ll catch y’all on the other side.
And an hour later I pulled up the local weather station and found this at 9am…
