Christmas Eve

Christmas Past… Way, Way Past

The photo of me surrounded by puppies in the previous post was actually from the 1955 Christmas card my family sent out…

But, no matter what else I have to say, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year… And whatever else may make you feel warm and fuzzy in our not so warm and fuzzy world right now…

So… It’s the day before Christmas and the prognosticators are foretelling of a very real possibility that tomorrow will break a record for the warmest Christmas Day on record on the SE Texas coast…

If the National Weather Service forecast for the next 7 days for Bush Airport comes to fruition, it will be the second warmest 7-day period of weather during the winter months (December-February) on record for the city of Houston, exceeded only by a stretch in late February 1996. The forecast 74° average temperature over the next week would beat the previous December 24-30 record from 2016 by four full degrees. Basically, we’re heading into unprecedented territory for late December. The 5 day temperature anomaly forecast for the US and Canada is quite extreme. As warm as it is here is almost as cold as it’s going to be in, say, Calgary or Edmonton.

Christmas Eve in Houston likely begins one of our warmest winter stretches on record, Space City Weather

It’s really hard to believe we are coming up on New Year 2022 and the daily highs are in the 80’s or flirting with the 80 degree mark all week long. Just another screwed up thing about 2021 to go down into the history books…

Sadly, this isn’t the first time I’ve been struck by the high temperatures around Christmas… see Flip-flops and Tank Tops from back in 2010.

So… Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for or dysfunctional nation and the world… I’ll catch y’all somewhere down the road…

  1. Interesting — we used to send out that kind of card, too, and I’m not sure I have a single one left. I’ll have to find some time to flip through the family photos and see if there’s one there. Thanks for the memory — and Merry Christmas.
