Thursday

It was 75°, when I walked out this morning onto the darkened back porch. The humidity was high settling like a blanket over the world.

Once the sun began to brighten the neighborhood, I could see a light mist hugging the ground abd dew covering the grass and the leaves. The time between bus runs had the sun coming up, but also had cloud cover moving in.

Once the second bus was gone, I headed for the post office to mail a couple of letters. Then I drove myself around the new subdivision that they’re clearing. It won’t be too many more days before most of that hundred acres of brush and trees is ground up to mulch. At least over the years they’ve gotten away from bulldozers and brush piles and smoldering fires and smoke.

Walking back to the house from the car I paused a moment to enjoy the sounds entailed in the song of a northern mockingbird. It’s a sound that hasn’t been that common the last few years. The sound that once was the soundtrack of summer here. I’ve missed that sound.

The talking heads on the radio are sure worried about what’s happening in Washington… Or maybe more correctly about what’s not happening in Washington. Two senators holding the Democratic agenda hostage. What’s really the difference if they’re Republican or Democrat? I guess, if these two Democratic senators were Republicans they just be a couple of more nuts in a party bag of nuts. By being in the Democratic Party without being in the Democratic Party they become important even as they don’t do much of anything besides stop everything. Oh well… That’s the way the American government works these days… by not working.

I’ve got things to do… Or not to do… So, y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for our dysfunctional nation and world.

I’ll see y’all on the other side.
