Thirteen September, 2021

Monday

It’s a wet, almost stormy morning to start this week. Way down south in the Gulf is tropical storm Nicholas. The prognosticators are saying TS Nick will come ashore sometime today south of us on the coast. So, well we won’t be looking for heavy winds, the prognosticators are screaming about the possibility of catastrophic rainfall amounts.

Of course the local schools in what they call “an abundance of caution” closed down for the day.

We’ve had off and on light showers overnight. And since I shot the video above, heavier showers have moved through with some nice blowing rain. I would assume this is what we have to look forward to all day long…

It’s kind of funny, I think this is the first hurricane / tropical storm that I’ve ever seen that was named after someone I know. Since my oldest son’s name is Nicholas I guess we’ll get to blame a whole lot of stuff on him today.

The Space City Weather guys have this ranked as a Stage 3 flood event. Which calls for significant flash flooding: hundreds of homes flooded, high impact timing or longer duration flooding.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the day is going to bring. Personally I’m just going to enjoy the peace and quiet while the grandkids hang out in their rooms on their electronics. As long as the power doesn’t fail… Not always a given here in Texas… I’ll just peacefully go about my normal day.

So, y’all stay safe, stay healthy, pray for the nation and the world… And if you’re anywhere around here, try to stay dry.

Catch y’all on the other side…

  1. All good over here. The latest rain band has moved on, and I’m about to bring in a few things from the car and make one more cuppa — just because. I’m not worried about this one at all. If I lived in the heart of Houston, I might worry more about street flooding, and if I were on the West End I’d be keeping an eye on the surge, but here all will be fine. I think.

    1. Pretty much the way I feel about it myself. It’s going to be a wet couple of days, but we could use the rain. My wife has to go into the med center outskirts each day, so I worry about her drive to and from… But I’m not worried about around here so much.
