Well spring has truly arrived. I can see hints of green even around the mostly bare pecan trees. The morning temperature is 69°. The air is dry, there was no dew on the windows of the car this morning.
The morning birdsong is everywhere around the yard. Hummingbirds flit like buzz bombers back and forth to the feeder and the flowers in the yard. One of the neighborhood whistling ducks flew over again this morning as I said at the bus stop. A bird sound that is just now becoming prevalent lately is the mourning dove… Cooing in the edge of the woods.
The Cardinals are now trying to mark their territories, of which there are at least a half a dozen around my back porch. Laughing gulls, or as we more colloquially know them… Walmart gulls… For their prevalence of grouping in the parking lots outside of Walmart’s… Just flew over, laughing all the way.
As you may notice, in the pictures above, we have clouds blowing in from the gulf. They’re moving at a pretty good clip as they coast their way north.
This is just my second morning of actually sitting on the back porch. And if all of my mornings were this comfortable, I’d spend more of them out here. But once again the highs this week are approaching the ’80s… So most of my sitting time will be spent inside.
Off in the distance this morning there is a rhythmic thumping sound. I have no idea what it might be but it has an annoying quality to it. For the past four days I’ve had someone else in the house at all times, so, even though it’s laundry day I think I’ll enjoy myself.
I am one of those strange souls who even when he’s alone doesn’t feel lonely. I’ve always been this way. Whether it’s a flaw in my character, or not, I couldn’t care. Being comfortable with myself has always seemed a plus to me. Besides, how could anyone feel lonely surrounded by birdsong?
Well I’m ready for my third cup of coffee. I’ve been out of bed now for almost 2 hours. And shortly I’ll want to eat breakfast. So y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for the nation and the world.
Enjoy spring. Or if you’re up north enjoy the precursors, the tease of spring…
I’m hearing rumors of 90s this week. Whether we get them’s an open question, I suppose, but it’s clear that summer’s on the way. Still, I’ve yet to encounter a mosquito this spring. I suppose they’re still playing catch-up from the freeze, too.
Even if the “real” temperatures don’t reach the nineties, my back porch will. The spring time temperature when the sun shine back there are usually 10 degrees higher than the official measurements. I’ll confirm your observation about the lack of mosquitoes…Knock on wood…
