Happy Birthday Abby
It’s chilly this morning, and there’s a bit of a breeze blowing, but it’ll warm up some by afternoon. Sitting at the bus stop, the temperature on the car dashboard is 44°. The wait with one grandchild is what it takes to warm the car. The second weight with the second grandchild is comfortable. It was a bit different this morning, there was no dew on the car.
Black birds like a slow flowing river, cross the sky. Their current breaking around the trees like water around rocks. And still they flow, hundreds and hundreds of black birds. The river of their sameness broken by contrarian singularities of crows.
Looking into the backyard, I’m amazed at the variety of trees. When we bought this place almost 30 years ago, it was a wide open field with a bit of woods at the back. I planted a single pine tree, a pair of red oaks, and a handful of Cypress trees. Along the way I added some cedar trees, a few more pines, and a handful of oaks. Nature helped by self-seeding more pines, and more oak s along the edge of the woods. The actual woods, they’re gone now. But the edge in my yard has expanded a dozen or more feet.
Well the sun is up, and I’ve finished a couple of cups of coffee, so I guess it’s time to get moving… or at least reading…
Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for our Nation and the world.
For my friends and family up in the Northeast, stay warm and enjoy the winter wonderland. Have a great day
