Christmas Eve

The front that finally arrived last night around 9pm is still blowing hard outside. The temperatures plunged from a high of almost 80 yesterday to a low in the 30’s this morning. The wind is expected to keep blowing all day and tonight’s low will be pushing freezing… I notice they have a 1% chance of precipitation… is somebody holding out a hope of snow on Christmas Morning?

It happened once just a few years ago… our very own Christmas Miracle. A white Christmas on the Texas Gulf Coast… Linda wrote about it at Waiting for Snow. Here’s what I remember of the day…

My House, Christmas Day 2004
My House, Christmas Day 2004

Everyone was sleeping after a late night of playing in the snowfall until the early hours of the morning. The kids had never seen snow that actually stuck to the ground. and suddenly late on Christmas Eve the snow began to fall… and fall… and fall. I woke up… not too early. But the house was quiet. The first Christmas morning in our life as a family when the kids all slept in. I walked out back of the house into the backyard and this is what I saw, A blanket of white on the ground, on the trees, on everything in a cold blue world… Beautiful. And oh so peaceful.

Merry Christmas All.

  1. Did you ever get one of the HEB books of photos of that day? My mom gave me one for Christmas the next year. She sneaked it into her grocery cart one day and managed to keep it a secret for months. Amazing.

    1. No, I don’t think I ever saw it. But every Christmas I revisit your post. I still remember your post at the Weather Underground. It’s where I first discovered your writing. I am thankful I did. Merry Christmas Linda…
