Once again I’m sitting on the back porch listening to the birds and a distant train whistle. It’s 74 out already, but the ceiling fans make it just right. There’s enough moisture in the air to make it hazy in the distance.

The birds today are very active. I guess they are just trying to get everything done before the afternoon heat rolls in. I can’t say I blaim them one bit.

The girls of summer were on the slip and slide almost all day yesterday. When they pulled up the edge and I saw the mud hole developing in the yard, I made them move it. Then I passed a new rule… the yard needs a two day rest between water days. Plus, my water bill probably needs a rest itself.

Political Rant

Ignore if you think Donald is MAGA

After watching the news yesterday morning I’m almost afraid to see what happened overnight. My wife would talk about this in biblical terms… she sees end times written all over the Trump presidency. For me it’s just a terrible time in this social/economic experiment we call the United States of America. It’s exactly what happens when a divider takes charge of our united community. It’s what happens when the safeguards are ignored… both socioeconomic and political.

My disdain for the Republicans in Congress has grown since the mid-90’s. Their dismantling of economic, environmental, racial regulations as they increased their support for more regulations on social and political life says everything about them as a party. If they can’t convince the people they’ll just pack the courts and change the laws thru activist judges… you know the ones they blame the other side for.

  1. I am right there with you, Gary. My own disdain for the GOP began in the 80’s but, like you, began to explode in the 1990’s. Their motives and ends seem so transparent and antithetical to the values of a democracy yet so many folks buy into them. Can’t wait to get through this period and onto a hopefully better one.

    1. Gary, my turning point was the 1992 Republican Convention. The company I worked for was the general contractor for the convention. I spent the entire run of the conversation on the floor. It was the rhetoric and unaired speeches that caused me to cast my first straight party ballot that fall… and it wasn’t Republican. Until that point I considered myself an independent, no longer after experiencing that party Convention.
