Beautiful Springlike Start To May Morning Coffee Muses

Beautiful Springlike Start To May Morning Coffee Muses

Wow, a May miracle. Two beautifully springlike days in a row. This time of this year, in this age of the earth, any semblance of spring that manifests is to be embraced like the long lost lover she is.

Every month these days the report from the prognosticators is about how the past month was the warmest ever in the recorded history. This past winter was eye opening, we have never seen so many days of eighties in my memory. Once upon a time living close to the Gulf tended to moderate your climatic swings. Now the Gulf is warmer through the winters, and almost hot in the summers. The winter’s fronts don’t push thru as often or as strongly. Just another chapter in the climate change myth.

We have reached peak spring now. The weeds along the bayou have grown tall enough to keep me from seeing the other side. I guess that means the county will have their long-armed mower delivered before too long. It’s a large backhoe with a hydrologic mowing head where the bucket should be… a huge tracked monster that prowls the bayous and drainage ditches of the county keeping the waterways clear for tropical storm season.

Speaking of mowing, I can hear a tractor doing just that across the bayou I can’t see. Looking at my grass, if I was a good suburban male, I’d be thinking about riding the Deere. But, you know what, I kinda like the flowers poking up out of the grass. The meadow like feel of the yard is a look I cultivate… And the whole reason I ran from the master planned community I left to come out here to the big city of Alvin.  And truth be told, Alvin feels a lot today like the Pasadena I grew up in in some ways.

This really is such a beautiful morning I hate to move on but if nothing else, email calls… I’ll catch you on the morrow.
