I’ve been out on the front porch for almost an hour now reading and listening… to both birds and YouTube videos. Between “everything is broken“, questions about Confederate statues from Virginia, and a double celebration of the armadillo it’s been a morning. Throw in some Dylan covers and a Jerry Jeff performance of a Gary P Nunn song, and time has a way of slipping away, even as life seems stuck in dog years.

I did spot a mockingbird foraging in the grass at the edge of the gravel in the image above. It was such a novel sight I got lost in it for a while.

Also, in the last day or so, the crepe myrtle has decided to burst into bloom. The three trees that now are in the front yard haven’t enjoyed the past decade or so. I would imagine that when they were planted way back when they were in full sun. They probably made a splash of color in the back yard of the old house. Now they stand in shade under large oak and pecan trees and fight to grow. If I didn’t like their old fashioned blooms I would put them out of their misery.

I just had a couple of doves… mourning doves, land right in front of me and start foraging.

I started to say something about the weather when I started this… but other than warm and muggy, what more can you say about summer on the Texas coast? At least the threat of rain is keeping the sun from taking us from uncomfortable right on into hellish.

Well my coffee cup is empty once again. Time to head in and grab a bowl of Cheerios… or something… y’all stay safe, stay healthy, keep wearing a mask… and try and find some joy in the world today.
