Goodbye North Carolina…

One of the places I have tried to hit in North Carolina for a number of years has been Roaring Creek off of 19E out of Elk Park. Roaring Creek tumbles off the southeast side of Roan Mountain feeding the North Toe River. Each year something has come up to keep me from running out that way. This year on our way out of North Carolina I made it a point to drive up Roaring Creek.

The weather was totally overcast with occasional light showers. Not great weather to run up a mountain road…The lower valley was well populated, houses on both sides of the creek. Paved road most of the way to the top…Once the pavement ended the view was great. Here’s what the road looked like…

But it was the view at the end of the road as the sun would break through the clouds that made the trip worthwhile…

From the top of Roaring Creek it was time to start heading for home…Via Tennessee. Someone needs to remind me why I keep trying to drive home through Tennessee…Every time I do it storms all the way across the state . It makes for an interesting drive I want you to know.

When we could see the scenery it was gorgeous…The colors over a large portion of the drive were at their maximum. Sadl, with the weather threatening or actually dumping on our heads, I captured no photos after we left Roan Mountain and Roaring Creek. Looks like another trip will be required…Damn…
