I’m standing out on the front porch this morning. Waiting for my grandson to get on the school bus… And I’m struck by how beautiful a spring morning it is. Even though the sun is not up, the birds are singing as if their lives depended upon it.
There is a crispness to the air.. a chill after mornings starting out in the mid-70s. One could almost learn to enjoy 50 plus degree mornings.. If we were just given the chance.
I’ve been spending the last few weeks living with a new playlist on Amazon Music. I named it my “Obsessions” playlist. Basically it’s a collection of the singer/songwriters and the groups whose voices have grabbed my ear over the years. It’s an eclectic bunch. There is no rhyme, no reason.. just a bunch of singular voices. And it’s not just a collection of “Greatest Hits” but a real deep dive into their entire catalog.. Their “Life’s Work” if you want.
Sometimes I’ve come late to the party, sometimes I discovered them early.. or at least earlier than most. Some like the Beatles I was late to the party.. it was only after they had a body of work that I could get really invested in their sound and story. You could say that their later work as a group that led me to appreciate their earliest collaborations. Some, like Eva Cassidy, I didn’t discover until it was too late to enjoy their short flame,, a flame that burnt bright and was snuffed too early.
Some have continued to make music while some faded from the public eye. But for me there has always been something to their voices that just pulls me in… And I must say, that the only commonality amongst this group of obsessions is that their voices are each and every one recognizably their own…
Looks like a beautiful day down there, Gary. Hope you have a great day.
It really is a great morning Gary, thanks…
