Friday September 8th
Sitting out on the front porch once again.. on what the weather prognosticators are saying “should” be the last in a long line of heat advisory days. I must admit sitting out before sunup, it isn’t too unpleasant.
Once again, the hummingbirds are chirping in the pre-dawn light. They’re working hard to empty the quart jars of sugar water I put out in their battles for preeminence as the day brightens.
It’s time to head in for a bit over 30 minutes before it’s time to come back out…
Stepping out on the back porch to take the above photos I was surprised at the number of clouds covering the sky. Especially considering, today is supposed to be a scorcher.
I have to admit, I well remember both of the preceding record sitting years. 2011 was the year we had this house constructed. And 1980 was the year I decided to paint the exterior of our first house.
I have to admit.. painting that house was one hot, hellish job. It wasn’t something I approached without some trepidation. But I was not working that summer.. who wants to schedule a convention in Houston, Texas in the middle of summer? So it was a good time to work on the house. Unfortunately the house hadn’t had any fresh paint put on it since the early 1950s.
So in the heat of that hellish summer I spent weeks sanding and scraping before I even begin to paint. And then I painted the entire house with a six inch brush… The primer code and two cover coats. Once it was finished it looked pretty good.. if I do say so myself.
One consequence of our Labor Day rain has been a nice greening of the lawn this week… At least in the front yard. The backyard is still pretty brown.
Oh well once again the bus has come and gone and I need to head in for my last cup of coffee and some breakfast… Y’all try to stay cool and I’ll catch y’all on the other side.
