Tuesday August 22nd
When I woke up this morning I did what I always do and glanced at my phone… This morning I was gob smacked by the temperature I saw at 5:15am. Once I was up I double checked everywhere.. and sadly all sources agreed.. The overnight low made it all the way down to.. are you ready.. 86 degrees… How is that even possible?
As I was out for the first bus run.. a small rain shower blew over. It came and went in under 3 minutes. But it was enough to drop the temperature by 3 degrees. And the smell… the smell of rain in a parched world was exquisite. Even if it wasn’t enough to wet the concrete.
Now I’m out on the front porch waiting for bus run number two. At least the temperature is still in the lower range from earlier. Though what little moisture fell from the sky has totally vanished into the dry warm winds.
And the rains the prognosticators hoping for last week look to have totally missed us to the south. The yard crew was here yesterday and didn’t even break out their lawn mowers. They just spent the time working to clean up trees in the backyard.
Well, the bus is here and I’m headed back inside… Another cup of coffee and breakfast and then it’ll be laundry time. Y’all stay cool and I’ll catch y’all on the other side.
