Thursday April 13th
The progression of the seasons is well advanced and I’ve missed most of it due to the continued overcast we’ve had. The Sun, on its annual progression to the north, has now reached the point where the back porch will be touched less and less to fall arrives. That also means that for the next few months the front porch will receive daily sun.
But still, it’s pleasantly cool outside at 56°. And, the winds are calm.
Over the past few weeks as I listen to the music coming from the computer I’ve wondered about my musical style… The style of music I’ve been drawn to over the decades, the artists that show up in my playlist… And I’ve come to the conclusion that the style of music I’m most comfortable with would have to be considered singer/songwriter. Whether the artists are rock, or country, or pop… whether it’s a singular voice, or group there is a sound that predominates. From the folks living in Laurel Canyon in the ’60’s right on through the wandering minstrels that work the bars and music halls of today… It’s the storytellers I’m continually attracted to.
And it’s the voices… each individually unique in different ways… but every one totally recognizable. Some have become icons, some were only around for a short while, some made a splash and the ripples faded over time… Many I’ve missed as their song faded… except for the digital memories I manage to archive from computer to computer.
Add in the indigenous songs from peoples around the world.. the tribal beats and melodies of other cultures.. the folk traditions of the western world… and the sound from my computer are just a bit eclectic…
One of the voices that haunts me to this day is the sound of Carol Young of the group “The Greencards”. From the first time I heard her sing on a Paste Sampler CD I was enthralled… Thanks Paste Magazine! Every time her voice comes out of my speakers I have to pause and just get lost I have never heard why the group ended. But I sure have missed the sound of Carol’s voice… Here’s the song that caught my ear all those years ago…
Here’s hoping your day is as nice as mine is looking to be… I’ll catch y’all on the other side.
Counting Down To 70 Years -300 Days
And just because I can… Listen to some more of Carol Young.
