Thursday February 23rd
Out on the porch this morning… It’s a warm 70° with just a bit of humidity. It kind of looks like we’re back in the pattern of overcast mornings. The kind of days that look seasonal, you know it looks like it ought to be cold out, but it’s unseasonably warm.
I was listening to my library last evening and the following caught my ear… Verse 2 particularly resonated with me. I’ve spent untold hours driving wet Houston roads under blackened skies…
[Verse 2]
And I’m driving into Houston on a rain-slicked Texas road
Land so flat and sky so dark, I say a prayer to float
Should all at once the San Jacinto surge beyond its banks
Like Noah reaching higher ground I’d offer up my thanks
[Chorus]
‘Cause I’m a stranger here, no one you would know
I’m just passing through, I am therefore I go
The moon rose in the east, but now it’s right above
As I say aloud, goodnight America
Mary says this about the song “This is a love song to the road, to all of the places that I’ve been, nose pressed against the bus window, a stranger but traveling with faith in the ordinary, hope in the unseen, always seeking connection in places new to me.” Her description makes images from the movie Almost Famous pop into my head.
