November 21st

Monday

Ten days ago a cold front blew into Houston, and since that time the region has experienced weather that is typical for the dead of winter, not late fall. The city’s warmest temperature during that timespan has been just 61 degrees, with lows in the 30s and 40s. Houston will face another chilly day or two before we start to warm up in time for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately that comes with a price: We’re increasingly confident of rainfall on the holiday.

Today will be a strange day if the prognosticators are right. The temperature, which is in the mid forties will not vary more than two or three degrees all day long. And once again a light rain is falling. So, if the temperature alone wasn’t enough to feel like winter, the view out my window has been winter-like for days now… Though there are still green leaves everywhere.

Just as an indication of the strangeness of it all, my wife has fired up the fireplace now more than we ever have before in November. Thank God we stocked up on fire logs in the fall of 2021 after the Abbott apocalypse the winter before.

And just because it’s playing right now, here’s one of my favorite voices…

Y’all have your own good day… I’ll catch you on the other side…

  1. Pleasant morning, huh? At least it’s going to be warming for Thanksgiving, even if wet. I still haven’t heard anyone really complaining about the rain, though; we’ve needed it so badly, and these days of long, gentle rains are just the ticket.

    1. I have to say I was hoping the cooler temps would last… Once again we seem to be outliers in the rain total predictions. Already we’ve had .6″ of slow and steady… and it’s not even noon!
