Laundry day, Tuesday
Water is standing everywhere outside from the overnight rains. It’s coolish at 78°. But, the humidity is at 93%. According to the weather underground in the last 24 hours I estimate we’ve had 2 and 3/4 in of rain… I would believe it.
When the thunderstorm moved through last night the lightning was almost constant. Thunder boomed continuously. The lights flickered off regularly and went completely off at least twice.
That really seems to be the nature of our electrical grid around here these days. Anytime it rains heavily, or blows with any force, or lightning strikes more than twice a minute our power goes out… Ercot. For most oxymoronically named commission in the state of Texas. The electric reliability council of Texas. I really need to drop the reliability.
I’m beginning to understand why the company across the road has so many service vehicles. They sell and service residential and commercial generators. There is absolutely no place better for a company like that than under the umbrella of ercot. It also explains why the number of service vehicles is out of proportion to the number of installation vehicles. Because every generator sold is sold with a service contract. And the state of Texas is helping sell generators.
I looked into generators when we built this house. But when the quote came back at 5% of the cost of the house… I had to rethink that. It seemed to me that that equated to a whole lot of hotel room days. It’s beginning to seem like a bargain these days. But that’s just another example of Texas exceptionalism…
Well I’ve got to get busy, so you all stay safe, stay healthy, pray for the nation and the world. And please, say a prayer for the state of Texas, with our leadership we need it.
