Thursday, May twenty-fourth

A much cooler, fresher after the rain, springlike morning coffee muses.

The images above show the eastern and western skies, pretty much the way they start out most days. Clouds to the east over Galveston Bay, clear skies to the west over the coastal plains. As the morning goes by, clouds begin appearing to the southwest. They drift north, until within an hour or so, both directions look about as cloudy.

It’s a crow filled morning. And they are being harassed by mockingbirds. The Mississippi Kite is on his perch watching over it all.

I need to do some chores today. I want to move my smoker to the back porch… actually just off the back porch, so it’s more convenient to the kitchen. It’ll also make nighttime smoking more convenient. And since most barbecuing/smoking is done in advance of the guests showing up, it doesn’t need to be out front. Besides, outdoor activities in our warming summers are better done from inside the house.

There’s a train coming up from the south, horn blowing. I’m hearing the first morning cicadas. A sound I’ve been waiting for for awhile.

Yesterday’s rains have the frogs calling from the woods… a sound that once was much more common.

As much as I enjoy this cool morning air, my coffee is gone bad I need to move inside..
