Hot, Humid, Miserable Early Summer Morning Coffee Muses
The only time I spent on the back porch this morning was what it took to take this mornings pictures. Why you ask? I am glad you did…
The sun isn’t even out, there’s a breeze blowing… but damn it’s just sweltering before 9am. The humidity is at 76%. The heat index is at 99°… It feels like ninety-nine degrees before at 9:20 am. And we are still a week away from the summer solstice… You know the official start of summer.
So, once again I am at my desk with my first cup of coffee…
I spent this week watching a PBS series that was just mesmerizing… American Epic. The show that caught my eye first was American Epic Sessions. After finishing that show, and it took 3 days to watch the whole thing because each session was intense.b I then powered through the three episodes that preceded it. Here’s the teaser…
Here is what the website has to say about the documentary…
AMERICAN EPIC represents a ten-year odyssey undertaken by director Bernard MacMahon and producers Allison McGourty and Duke Erikson, and audio engineer Nicholas Bergh that involved tracking down countless long forgotten musicians, restoring the music that they recorded and reassembling the technology that created it. Along the way they brought some of the most important figures in contemporary culture to help them on their quest. Executive Producers Jack White, T Bone Burnett and Robert Redford have lent their support to what Redford calls “America’s greatest untold story”.
Starring: The Carter Family, Memphis Jug Band, Elder Burch, The Williamson Bros. & Curry, Dick Justice, Charley Patton, Hopi Indian Chanters, Joseph Kekuku, Lydia Mendoza, the Breaux Family, Mississippi John Hurt, and Blind Willie Johnson
In THE AMERICAN EPIC SESSIONS, the team has reassembled the very first electrical sound recording system from the 1920s, and invited Jack White and T Bone Burnett to produce an album of recordings by twenty of today’s greatest artists. In this beautifully filmed musical feature, these artists are given the chance to pass through the portal that brought the world into the modern era.
If you have the time and are so inclined, go have a look. If nothing else check out the Sessions. If you do, make sure you either have good speakers or a good set of headphones… The music needs to be heard.
