I walked out this morning for my morning coffee and the day slapped me in the face. Yesterday’s cool had been replaced by our normal heat and humidity. But, sitting here reading my email and news, listening to the daily political news, I began to here another sound… in the distance there was a low rumble of thunder. Closer and closer the rumblings came. Eventually the temperature began to fall… to moderate.
So now I think I’ll have another cup of coffee.
Update: here’s a shot of the clouds moving in. The breeze coming off them is really cool.
Despite the heat, I went over to the Brazoria refuge last weekend. I saw wood storks for the first time! I wasn’t sure that’s what they were, so I called the refuge office, and sure enough — storks. The fellow said that they show up in the summer. My photos weren’t very good, so I’m going to make another run at it. It surely was fun to see them — also stilts, roseate spoonbills, white and glossy ibis, yellow legs. I really was surprised at the number of birds.
I have been meaning to make that trip myself, I guess from what you are saying I really must get up and go early next week…
Really pretty, Gary. It’s been a long time! Buck and I are still living in the piney woods near Pensacola, Florida where, at this time of year, a person no longer hopes for a cool breeze but tries to embrace the steam.
Hi Beth, I’ve missed your blog…Believe me, the weather here is just as steamy. That was what made these two days so unusual. Most days at this time of year, I spend most of my time hiding from the heat. But. when Mother Nature decides to offer up some cool breezes, I know exactly where to go and enjoy the break.
