Weather Update – The Drought Continues

Continuing the conversation from earlier in the month

Forget about May flowers, Houston needs April showers to break a severe drought.

The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows 95 percent of Texas now in a drought, including Harris County. For the first time this year, a large chunk of the county’s northern half is in a severe drought.

“Not since the 2005-2006 drought has so much of the state been designated as at least in a moderate drought,” said John Nielsen-Gammon, the state climatologist and a professor of atmospheric sciences at Texas A&M University.

It seems that with every possibility of rain, our hopes are pushed further out into the season. Weather fronts that in the past would be guaranteed to bring wet weather now push the moister further east.

I have enjoyed the past couple of mornings when the temperatures have been in the 50’s as I sit at the computer with my first cup of coffee. Add in the 20% humidity and the days have felt really comfortable.
