Houston Snow…Stayed north of us.
Yesterday’s weather event was a washout here at our place. As nice as it was to watch the heavy flurries fall off and on all day, the lack of anything sticking to the ground left us filling like a stood-up date…All dressed up for the ball and nothing but a pumpkin at the curb.
Looking out the back door this morning, the frost on the ground was almost as white as snowfall in the breaking sun. The freeze last night has the pecan in the backyard dropping leaves like the best of the snow showers yesterday. It almost looks like large yellow flakes falling hundreds at a time. At this rate the tree will be bare by evening.
In the time it took to drink my first cup of coffee the sun has already burned off the frost wherever it hits and the temperature has risen from 30° to 33°. Winter Storm #1 is headed for the history books.
A Wedding To Remember
Last evening we attended a the wedding of one of Sherry’s Step-Nieces. Beautiful wedding in the historic Magnolia Ballroom in downtown Houston. The celebration was proceeding well right up until the evacuation into the frozen street caused by some type of electrical fire (I guess). Acrid smoke floated at the ceiling of the first floor as we all filed down the stairway and into the late night streets of downtown where we milled around as firetrucks flew in from every direction.
As the street filled up with emergency vehicles and men in firefighting dress mixed with the formally dresses wedding party, the disco beat of the flashing lights added a surreal aspect to the evening. After milling around in the cold night air, I claimed my car from the valets. As we wove our way through the firemen, fire trucks, bride, groom, best man, mother and father of the bride saying our goodbyes we watched as the entire wedding party posed for some group shots by the ladder truck at the side of the building…Sadly, as we left we were wishing someone had managed to snag the Wedding Cake on the way out…We would have loved to have a piece…
We both wish Kari and Larry the best in their new marriage.
