The weather prognosticators have been promising us cooler weather all week…They promised it last week, too. Last week it fizzled. The radar images this morning look promising. The image above, from my morning email, makes me hopeful. Again this morning, the temperature before sunup was already at the 80° level. These are summer temperatures, as in August temperatures, not autumn temperatures…But for all my friends on the right, this is not proof of anything…Except that it’s hyot outside…Just like the cool summer in the Midwest disproved nothing.

OSLO — President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to encourage his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

Nobel observers were shocked by the unexpected choice so early in the Obama presidency, which began less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline.
