Today was mowing day around this place…Last time I mowed I picked up a bunch of nails in the tireson the Deere so the first order of business was pulling out the nails and plugging the holes. I have no idea where I managed to pick up the tire holers, but I pulled and plugged five holes. Then it was back and forth and back and forth for three hours or so…
According to the thermometer in the kitchen, at some point during all of that clipping and stirring of dust, the temperature reached 97°. I want to say I probably sunburned my toes as I rode around in my flipflops all of that time. I know I have a permanent stripe of white across my feet from the flipflops straps this year.
Speaking of flipflops…Until last fall when Ike blew through, I had never spent any time wearing any. After Ike…And my layoff, I just never went back to shoes most of the time. With our winters becoming so mild, I’ve noticed more and more shorts and flipflop wearers…even in January and February…
The thing that really made me sit down and meander my way through this post though was the weather report I heard at 6:30pm this evening. The Houston PBS radio station was reporting the temperature at 95°…But the real shocker was the heat index. They reported it at 107°…Now folks that is hot…
It really makes me happy that I have found a project to keep me busy indoors while the outdoors turns brown…I hope ya’ll had a cooler day wherever you are…Me…I’m dreaming Mountain Dreams tonight.
