Tuesday Evening
It was good to get back to work after a long and busy weekend. It seems to have been one of those weekends that requires a work week to recuperate from. I spent two days finishing up a bit of remodeling and furniture construction (good ol’ IKEA). You save a great deal of money this way but you spend a great deal of time to do so.
Wednesday Morning
Glancing through the news this morning the political stories caught my eye but not my interest. What did catch my interest was this from the local paper…
WASHINGTON — Another week, another rumbling train of tornadoes that obliterate entire city blocks, smashing homes to their foundations and killing people even as they cower in their basements.
With the year not even half done, 2008 is already the deadliest tornado year in the United States since 1998 and seems on track to break the U.S. record for the number of twisters in a year, according to the National Weather Service. Also, this year’s storms seem to be unusually powerful.
But like someone who has lost all his worldly possessions to a whirlwind, meteorologists cannot explain exactly why this is happening.

More tornadoes, hotter year round temperatures, more drought, more floods…some people out there are probably predicting the end of the world. It almost makes you wish for the head in the sand days before we knew as much about what is happening in the world as we do today.
Just think, not so long ago we wouldn’t have had a clue about the death and destruction in Myanmar or China. We would have know about the storm and the earthquake, but the scope of the disasters would have been hidden from sight.
Time to hit the road…
