A Week and a Day…

It was just eight days ago that I took myself off on my annual Birthday/Photo Roadtrip. This image is one of the ones I captured on that day. This shot was taken in San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge but it could have been taken in a number of other locations on that day. There were a number of grass fires burning within sight at any given time around me as I traveled that day. I would venture to guess that some were intentional…some were not.

It was the perfect day for grass fire. Last years grasses were particularly lush and that has lead to some thick stands of dry, dead fuel all over the gulf coast. I expect to be seeing more of these smoke clouds on the horizon right on into spring.

This type of sight is not uncommon down here along the Gulf Coastal Plain at any time of the year, but, winter is the most opertune time for a burn…Dry fuel, strong north winds, and miles and miles of nothing much in the way…

It’s time to check email…y’all have a good day.
