George Will has decided he will hold a newly elected Senator to a higher standard that the President and Vice-President of the United States. Go figure. I agree if Jim Webb really wanted to make a statement he should have stayed away from the reception…He could have put out a press release I suppose, but then George Will would probably still not be happy with him. 

Jim Webb, Democratic senator-elect from Virginia, has become a pompous poseur and an abuser of the English language before actually becoming a senator.

Wednesday’s Post reported that at a White House reception for newly elected members of Congress, Webb “tried to avoid President Bush,” refusing to pass through the reception line or have his picture taken with the president. When Bush asked Webb, whose son is a Marine in Iraq, “How’s your boy?” Webb replied, “I’d like to get them [sic] out of Iraq.” When the president again asked “How’s your boy?” Webb replied, “That’s between me and my boy.” Webb told The Post:

But for George Will to attribute the statement of the President to anything other than his gamesmanship and to totally ignore the President’s comeback line of “I didn’t ask that” leaves him pushing his own agenda.

George W Bush has made a science out of being a boor, Mr. Will. He would make his mentor, Dick Cheney, proud.  If you want to call someone on boorish behavior try starting in the White House and working down. You may run out of columns by the time this administration leaves office.
