To torture or not to torture…Is there a question here?

You know, I’m getting really tired of this Administration trying to tell me what morality is. As they lie and cheat and push crony politics to new limits, they seem to have a disconnect with reality (like I’m the first person to say that). I can only hope that the misgivings being expressed by some Republicans are real and will turn into real push back for the White House.

GOP Infighting on Detainees Intensifies – washingtonpost.com: “Joining McCain and the other Republicans this week was former secretary of state Colin L. Powell, who wrote in a letter that reinterpreting the Geneva Conventions would encourage other countries to ‘doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism.’
Bush bristled at the criticism from his former top diplomat yesterday, calling it “flawed logic” and accusing Powell of equating U.S. tactics with those of terrorists, even though Powell’s letter made no such comparison. “It’s unacceptable to think that there’s any kind of comparison between the behavior of the United States of America and the action of Islamic extremists who kill innocent women and children,” Bush said.”

Colin Powell spent a lot of his political capital in backing the Bush agenda during his first term. Hopefully he has enough left to actually make a difference in this one.

As I think back over the anger in the Bush rhetoric of the last couple of weeks the one image from 9/11 that keeps replaying in my mind is the deer in the headlights look the President had in that school room in Florida. Was he really that scared? Is it that fear that has translated into all of the craziness of the past 5 years? Is it really just the macho posturing of the scared bully who can’t let anyone see just how afraid of the world he really is?

That’s what I keep seeing in his threats to just take his toys and go home if we wont play by his rules…Maybe we need to start treating him like that little bully. Go ahead Mr. President, close down your secret prisons, stop your Orwellian NSA programs, call off your attack dog of a VP. Personally, I’d rather take my chances with the terrorists than watch you take this country down that road. Mr. President, I trust the Police and Firefighters, the Military and the FBI, they will do everything within their power to protect and serve America. What they won’t do is dismantle the constitution to do it. Mr. President, with every speech you give and every lie you tell, I trust you less and less (and starting where you did in 2000 with me you really had to work to go lower).

Mr. President take your toys and…
