ROUND TOP — Daniel Hale looked around in amazement at the crowd that had given his grandfather a standing ovation when he entered the hall.

“He’s like a rock star,” the 30-year-old said of Houston Chronicle columnist Leon Hale, who celebrated his 90th birthday Saturday at a party attended by about 600 people at the Rifle Association Hall. “I’m loving this.”

  1. I’ve loved Leon Hale from the time I came to Texas and found out who he was. I have one of his books on my shelf, and I still read it from time to time. I’m glad so many were able to go to celebrate with him.

    1. Linda, I grew up on his column, first in the Post and then in the Chronicle. And somewhere around here I have all of his books except maybe the last one.
