June 27th, Sunday

Laying about this morning, in no hurry to get out of bed. Sunday morning sleeping in… But, once I do step out this summer day is fully sprung. It’s 83°, and the humidity is 81%. Not obnoxiously summer, but summer just the same. It’s going to be a long, long slog till we reach the cooler days of fall.

The prognosticators are foretelling of afternoon rain showers with an even greater chance of rain for tomorrow leading into bit of a rainy week. In one way that’ll be nice… It’ll keep the temperatures down just a bit. But oh lordy what it does to the humidity shouldn’t happen to man or beast.

I’ve noticed the last few days that were really into cicadia and mockingbird weather. That’s the soundtrack of these summer days. It’s pretty much the soundtrack of the summers of my life.

I spent the greater part of my life experiencing summer up close and personal. During most of my adulthood and all of my childhood air conditioning was a rare experience in my day-to-day life. I can actually recall the year they installed air conditioning in the elementary school I attended. If I could recall correctly it was the summer between 4th and 5th grade. Until then the afternoons in late spring and early autumn were miserable with open windows and little breezes. Sweat stained assignment pages and crinkly pages in notebooks.

Well enough reminiscing… Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for the nation and the world.
