The first day of school… cooler with high humidity, maybe because it’s early, morning coffee muses.

It’s almost chilly in front of the fan this morning. But the fan is needed more for mosquito control than for cooling. The little bitty mosquitoes are vicious right now.

Hummingbirds are already battling over flowers… not the feeder. I hear the Mississippi Kite fledgling calling from the trees out front. When I walked out the birds were singing loudly… now they’ve quieted way down.

The first day of school and three school buses have already passed the house. When my youngest daughter was still in school that would have never happened. Seems the state had given the bridge over the drainage ditch just past the next door neighbor a failing grade. Once my daughter was out of school, the buses started passing again. The bridge hasn’t seen any repair or replacement. Makes you wonder about how safe it really is. Bridges all over the county have been replaced… even bridges at the end of dead end roads in the middle of rice fields. But not the one that was unsafe for school buses back in the day.

Well the grandkids are off to school and my cup of coffee is empty… I guess I should wander on in and check the news.
