6:00 AM on the front porch, and the air is already thick enough to chew. The bug choir is out in full force, humming its steady Gulf Coast lullaby, and to top it all off, the school bus decided to show up early today.

I took a glance at the weather app—86° “feels like” before the sun even gets a foot off the ground. When the “feels like” temperature is sitting just a single digit below the humidity reading it’s no wonder stepping outside feels like walking into a warm, damp sponge. What a way to greet the morning.
Things look a little different on the bus stop beat this year. Only one grandkid is boarding now. My grandson is a senior this term, and with his shortened schedule on both ends of the day, I’ve officially been recruited as his personal taxi driver. I’ll admit, after a long, glorious summer of sleeping in, these warm and muggy porch mornings are a bit of a shock to the system. I’m definitely going to miss those lazy summer wake-up times.
While waiting for the bus lights to sweep down the road, I’ve been puttering around the back end of the blog. Lately, whenever I preview a scheduled post and spot an older related article at the bottom missing a thumbnail, I’ll hop in and add one. Usually, it’s just one or two a day. But this morning, I decided to dig all the way back into the vault and check the earliest archive month on the site: May 2006.
I’d completely forgotten that I never converted those ancient HTML posts into WordPress blocks. So, sitting here in the thick dawn air, I’ve been steadily reviewing, converting, and dropping fresh images into twenty-year-old memories.
Between these morning porch meanderings and the regular queued updates, I might accidentally end up posting two or three times a day for a little while. What in the world is up with that? My apologies in advance if I start spamming your feed… assuming there’s still a friendly soul or two out there reading these ramblings.
The eastern sky is finally starting to pale into light, which is my cue to trade this muggy porch air for the sweet blessing of the air conditioner. Y’all stay cool today.
