It’s Gonna Feel Like Spring Today

The first thing I saw this morning was the current weather. I gotta say. While it’s cold outside this morning, it’s going to feel like spring by the afternoon.

I got a wild hair today made Texas Sausage Kolaches (Klobasneks) this morning. It’s not something I do often (if I did I wouldn’t be able to move from my recliner at all). And every time I make or buy these things, I can’t help but think these aren’t the Kolaches I grew up with. What I grew up with was a Czech kolache. My area of SE Texas had a large influx Czech immigrants back in the 19th century and some of their food traditions spread throughout the area.

Kolache are sweet Czech pastries made from yeast dough. Authentic Czech kolache are round (never square) and flat, with a generous filling in the center-typically fruit, poppy seeds, or tvaroh fresh cheese.

The Kolaches of my childhood.

I saw a comment on=line that Texas Sausage Kolaches were just pigs in a blanket. And having grown up with the Czech variety I would have to agree. But a piece of Czech sausage wrapped in a Grands biscuit (I use the flaky layered ones) is such a quick little breakfast treat to have with my cup of CoffeeMuses.

My morning muses have been fatally unscheduled here lately. Between getting everyone up and moving of a morning and the arrival in our part of the house of the little one it’s just an ongoing rush until we return from taking him to his daycare. Though I do get a little quality time catching up with the news on the big screen while the little one doses after my wife gives him his morning bottle. So while she gets dressed I hold the sleeping beauty.

Now that I’m back and finishing this bit of muse, I should report that it was quite foggy out this morning. though seeing that the dew point and the air temperature were about the same and the humidity is so high. I shouldn’t be surprised.

Minneapolis

The news coming out of Minnesota just doesn’t get any better as the days and weeks go by. For all of 2025 I found my anger growing. Both my anger at the current pResident and his administration and at the people and organizations that enabled this clusterf__k. But, once the calendar rolled over the level of hate for America coming from the right has gone off the charts. And sadly the state of Minnesota and the Twin Cities have caught the brunt of it.

It looks like Bruce Springsteen has decided to weigh in now too.
